Step by Step: Simple Delicious Weed Gummies

Last Updated: March 09, 2023By Joshua Mezher

Who doesn’t love gummy bears? Perhaps the better question is, who doesn’t love edibles? The real reason you aren’t enjoying weed gummies right now is likely because you’d prefer not to spend too much money buying weed gummies for sale. Why spend so much when making edible weed gummy worms or bears are so easy and so fun!

What are Weed Gummies?

They are weed edibles, gummy specifically that have been infused with THC. There are many different types of marijuana edibles out there, but pot gummies are among the most popular. They’re gummy bears made with weed! They taste delicious, and they get you really high.

How Much THC Is in Weed Gummy Bears?

The amount of THC in edibles can vary greatly, depending on how much you take and how high in THC the strain is that you are sourcing from. Taking too much can cause adverse weed gummy bear side effects like rapid heart rate, impaired coordination, and anxiety. Not taking enough will leave you feeling hardly anything at all, except perhaps annoyance and the feeling that you probably should have doubled your dosage. So, how much are you supposed to take?

Generally, if it’s your first time or you are only wanting to microdose, start with a small amount- perhaps 1-2.5 mg, which you should feel, but it won’t leave you feeling overwhelmed. There is a chance that you’ll feel nothing at all if you have a high tolerance. Those who are a bit more experienced but are looking for only a mild buzz or only need to treat mild symptoms will do better with 2.5-15 mg, which offers symptom relief, mild euphoria, and slight impairment. You’ll get a bit more of a buzz with a dose like this, but heavy cannabis users will probably not feel much more than a buzz.

Once you start getting into the higher dosages like 15-30 mg, you begin to feel a difference with altered perception, euphoria, and increased impairment. This is where the inexperienced might want to bow out. When you get to 30-50 mg, you will definitely feel it, with intense euphoria (queue giggles), impaired coordination, and anxiety if you’re not careful.

Lastly, there’s 50-100 mg, which is where the big dogs play. Expect to feel impaired, and you’d better believe your butt that your perception will be altered. This is where only the experienced dare to tread, unless you want to be like one of those dumb cops who takes a way higher dosage than he should, has a panic attack, and goes to the hospital because he thinks he’s dying.

How Long Do Weed Gummies Stay in Your System?

Edibles stay in your system for a week to a month. This, of course, depends on how heavy of a THC user you are. Don’t take an edible if you have to pass a drug test any time soon!

Buying Versus Making Your Own

When it comes to edibles, you have two choices: you can buy them from the dispensary or make your own. Granted, buying them is the easiest and less time consuming, but store-bought pot gummies are always more expensive than they should be, and you may have to take more to get the same effect.

You want to make your own edibles. Not only have people been doing this type of thing forever, but it’s also a lot easier than it used to be, thanks to awesome gadgets like cannabutter makers and the Instant Pot. Once you begin making your own edibles, you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with store-bought gummies in the first place. They also make great gifts and party favors.

How To Make Weed Gummies

Making pot gummies is very simple to do as long as you know how to make a tincture or oil. If you are starting with a premade oil or tincture, it’s even easier! To make your ganja gummies, you will need:

  • 3 Tablespoons Gelatin
  • 2/3 cup fruit puree
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2-3 teaspoons cannabis tincture or oil
  • Granulated sugar
  • Medicine dropper or squeeze bottle (think old mustard bottle)
  • Silicone molds/ baking dish sprayed with cooking spray

First, in a medium saucepan, combine fruit puree, water, and lemon juice, stirring together on medium heat until thoroughly mixed. Next, add your tincture, oil, or whatever infusion you happen to be using, whisking the mixture well. Lastly, add your gelatin. Using your medicine dropper, add your cannabis and gelatin mixture to your molds. Refrigerate for 15 minutes, then remove from the molds, and voila! You have some delicious pot gummies!

Pro Tip: Toss your gummies in with some sugar to keep them from sticking together!

The Easiest Way to Make Weed Gummy Bears

The easiest and quickest way to make gummy edibles is to use a ready-made tincture. You can either buy a tincture from a dispensary, or you can make one yourself at a separate time. Using a premade tincture or oil cuts down on your preparation time a lot. This is a great method to use if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands or are in a hurry to have some gummies to chow down on. Anyone who has decarbed herb before knows that it is a bit of a process. More on that later.

Once you have your tincture, simply follow the steps listed in the basic gummy recipe provided above. If this is your first time, or you are a bit strapped for time, it’s a good idea to start with a premade tincture or oil.

The Most Natural Way to Make Weed Gummies

This weed gummy bears recipe is very popular among the stoner community because it contains cannabis-infused coconut oil, which is valued for its nutritional benefits. Here is what you will need for this recipe:

-1/2 cup water

- 1 6 oz pack of Jello (dealer’s choice on the flavor)

-1 oz unflavored gelatin

-1/4 cup coconut oil

-1/2 teaspoon sunflower or soy lecithin

-1/8 oz dried cannabis flower

This process for making pot gummies is considerably longer than the method in the last section. This is because first, we have to decarboxylate or “decarb” the flower. Decarbing activates the active cannabinoids in your weed, ensuring you feel the effects of the cannabis when ingested. If you were to make edibles without decarbing your weed first, your edibles would be completely useless. They would do you about as much good as eating your weed instead of smoking it.

Decarbing is a simple process. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees and grind up your cannabis. Decarb your cannabis in your oven for 25 minutes. Now it is time to infuse your oil. Combine your decarbed weed with your coconut oil and soy or sunflower lecithin in an oven-safe container. After covering, place the container in a water bath and leave it in for 2 hours, stirring halfway through. Next, remove the oil from the oven, allowing a couple of minutes for it to cool off. Strain oil into a different container. Measure out 1/4 cup for the recipe.

Next, it’s time to make the gummies! Use the same technique as you would in the above recipe. First, you would combine the ¼ cup of oil with your water in a medium saucepan, slowly bringing it to a boil as you gently whisk. Next, add the gelatin packets, taking care to add the unflavored and flavored gelatin separately. Whisk for 5 minutes as you bring to a slow rolling boil. Finally, reduce heat to low. Cover your gummy molds in cooking spray to prevent sticking. Fill each mold with your mixture and stick in the fridge for 20 minutes.

How long do weed gummies last?

They don’t last that long. Always store in an airtight container to keep them fresh. Do not store your gummies for more than a couple weeks.

How Many Weed Gummy Bears Should You Eat?

How many gummies you eat depends on your tolerance and how potent you made your gummies. Start off with one to test their strength and experiment from there. Ask your friends to be your guinea pigs – they probably will not mind.

If you end up taking too many and getting too high, take a minute to sit and calm down. Drink some water, take a shower if need be. Remember that it won’t last forever. What goes up must come down.

How Long Will the Effects Last?

Edibles take a little longer to kick in, but they last a lot longer than the high from smoking a bowl. How long the high lasts depends on how many you take, your tolerance, whether you’ve eaten, etc. To test them out, start out with one and wait a couple hours before you try another one.

Pro tip: taking an edible sublingually (letting it dissolve under the tongue) will make the high kick in faster and last longer. This is because the THC can go straight into the bloodstream instead of the long hard road of metabolization.

Now that you know how to make weed gummy bears you can make them as strong as you’d like. If you’re in a recreational state, you probably already know that finding strong weed gummy bears for sale in a dispensary is an impossible task. Now you can enjoy some real gummies.
