Permanent Marker Strain: Type, Aroma and Flavor

Permanent Marker is a feminized photoperiod and an indica-leaning hybrid, about 70% indica and 30% sativa. It comes from a Biscotti x Jealousy x Sherb Bx cross. The smell is the reason people grow it: floral soap and sweet candy over a sharp, gassy, chemical funk. Caryophyllene leads the terpene profile and gives it a spicy, peppery, diesel edge; limonene adds the soapy sweetness and candy-floral notes. The smell changes near the end, from earthy to that sharp, soapy funk, in the last two weeks before harvest. The buds grow rock-hard and frosty, and the leaves and buds can turn deep purple to almost black against white trichomes as nights get cooler.

How to Grow Permanent Marker Photoperiod Seeds in a Pot for Pot Kit

Plant one seed in our organic super soil and just add water. Permanent Marker wants to grow wide and bushy, so give it time in the vegetative stage before it flowers; you set that timing with a photoperiod. Indoors, start on 18 hours of light and 6 of dark to build roots. It responds well to topping, but the real trick is airflow: strip the lower third of the plant (lollipopping) so light and air go to the top colas and the dense buds don’t trap moisture. Its sturdy, woody branches hold the weight well. Plant it early in the season to get more bud sites. Permanent Marker Flowering Time and Plant Size

It’s a photoperiod, so it starts flowering when daylight drops to about 12 hours. Outdoors that means a fall harvest; wait until the trichomes turn milky white. Indoors, you start flowering by switching your lights to 12 hours on, 12 off. Expect a wide, bushy plant rather than a tall, thin one; you won’t need a giant pot to fill it out.

Growing Permanent Marker Indoors vs Outdoors

Outdoors: it likes a warm, Mediterranean-style climate and dry fall weather, but it handles a cool autumn evening. In a humid area, plant it where the wind moves, or use a greenhouse with fans: it doesn’t like wet feet or still air. The dark leaves against white trichomes make it a striking garden plant. Its pest resistance is decent, but dense buds can mold after late rain, so shake the plant off after a storm. Indoors: it can take strong light, and more light deepens the purple and black. Keep humidity under 45% in late flower for a dry finish. Night temperatures around 65°F late in flower bring out the purple-black color and extra resin. It gets loud, so use a carbon filter.
