Sour Diesel Strain: Type, Aroma and Flavor

Sour Diesel Autoflower is a feminized, sativa-leaning hybrid (about 70/30) built on a legendary California strain that was originally clone-only; our autoflower version is as close to those original genetics as an autoflower gets. Its terpene profile is the gold standard for “gas” lovers: a sharp, chemical-heavy mix that smells less like a plant and more like a high-performance engine idling in a lemon grove. Expect “stanky” fuel with a sharp sour-citrus kick, from beta-caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene. The smell builds through flower; by week six it fills the room. The buds come out fuel-drenched, frosty and resin-heavy.
How to Grow Sour Diesel Autoflower Seeds in a Pot for Pot Kit
Plant one seed in our organic super soil and just add water. It’s an autoflower, so it flowers on its own; you never deal with photoperiod light schedules, which makes it an easy-to-grow sativa-leaning hybrid for learning the ropes. Indoors, keep your lights on 18 hours on and 6 off (or 20/4) from germination to harvest, keep the environment steady so the plant stays happy, and use strong full-spectrum light to drive heavy trichome production. It grows a sativa-leaning structure and stretches hard in flower, reaching for the lights, so gently bend and tie down the main stem early (LST). That opens the frame, gets light to the lower buds and keeps lanky branches from poking your lights. Growing in one of our kits? Sour Diesel Flowering Time and Plant Size
Autoflowers run on their own clock, so you can plan the whole grow from the day you plant. In our Indoor 2 Gallon kit, plan on as little as 80 days from seed to harvest. Our growers’ best Sour Diesel harvests have come about midway through ripening, so start checking the buds early. Expect a stretch once flowering starts: indoors, a taller tent helps.
Growing Sour Diesel Indoors vs Outdoors
Outdoors: it’s a vigorous, hardy, sun-loving plant that grows well in all climate zones; give it as much direct sun as you can. It excels in warm, sunny weather, and its ruderalis genetics handle moodier northern seasons. Plant as soon as the threat of frost has ended; for the strongest fuel notes, plant in early summer to catch peak sun. It finishes before soggy fall weather and many late-summer pests, and you can even fit more than one harvest into a season. Its manageable size suits a terrace, balcony or backyard spot. See our best outdoor grow setup, and find your zone on the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map; it’s in our Cold, Warm and Hot zone collections.
Indoors: use a tall tent, keep humidity low late in flower to protect the thick, resinous colas, and plan on a high-efficiency carbon filter. The “lemon-soaked jet fuel” smell gets very loud in the final weeks.

Sour Diesel Seeds FAQ
Are these Sour Diesel autoflower seeds?
Yes. They’re feminized Sour Diesel autoflower seeds, so the plant flowers as it ages, not when the days get shorter.
Is Sour Diesel indica or sativa?
It’s a sativa-leaning hybrid, about 70% sativa, and it grows like one: tall-reaching, with a stretch in flower.
What does Sour Diesel smell like?
Sharp fuel and sour lemon with a chemical funk, like an engine idling in a lemon grove. The main terpenes are beta-caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene. Plan on a carbon filter indoors.
How tall does Sour Diesel autoflower get?
It stretches once it flowers, so it needs more headroom than our compact autos. Tie down the main stem early, and use a tall tent indoors.
Which grow kit should I use?
The Indoor 2 Gallon kit ($79.99) is made for autoflowers. On a sunny patio, the Medium 5 Gallon kit ($99.95) gives it more room. Kits ship without seeds; seeds are $9.99 each, 6 for $50 or 12 for $80.
Can I grow Sour Diesel where I live?
Home-grow laws differ by state and change often. Check your state’s official rules, and you must be 21+. This isn’t legal advice.
